The Web 2.0 suicide machine is an anti-social networking site which allows user to commit "social suicide". The site is a critic of social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Myspace.

The concept is that the by giving your details such as login username and password to the suicide machine, you will commit "social suicide".

The suicide machine will delete all friends and private content but without deleting or deactivating the profile.

The suicide machine will remove all web 2.0 content from your profile with the aim being that the account will have all content completely removed and the scripts used blocks any access to the account by changing the password and not providing the new login details of the user who is committing virtual suicide.

Although there is a humorous element to the site, the creators are trying to make a serious point that web 2.0 is all consuming. Basically meaning that users spend hours tweeting and posting about everything, such as what they are doing today or what they ate for dinner.

The point being proved is that many people worldwide are producing vast amounts of information which being consumed by the millions engaged in virtual interaction and virtual communities and not making the most of the real world interaction.

Obviously the social networking sites did not take kindly to the site and Facebook actually wrote a letter stating the intention to sue as the growth of Facebook relies solely upon the increasing number of users signing up.
The site is ultimately discouraging people becoming "virtual" as social networking sites are giving people a virtual identity whereby users communicate from behind a screen over the internet and web 2.0.

There are also other organisations and groups against sites such as Facebook, some claiming that Facebook is the Devil for reasons such as it lowers productivity, it disconnects users from the real world, it tracks personal information and exposes users and can cause social stress.
